2,000 young people receive life safety advice at Junior Citizen

Over the past few months, the Accident Prevention Officer from Barking and Dagenham Council has delivered the Junior Citizen Programme to thousands of local school children.

Junior Citizen offers young people practical advice and guidance on how to stay safe in everyday life. The sessions are designed to be engaging, hands-on, and informative.

In total, 1,980 students from 30 different schools took part in the programme, receiving expert advice from:

  • London Fire Brigade
  • TfL Tube
  • Vandome Cycles
  • TfL Bus
  • London Ambulance Service
  • Metropolitan Police
  • Subwize
  • Thames Water

Representatives from these organisations shared key safety messages and raised awareness about how young people can protect themselves, their friends, and their families.

Councillor Syed Ghani, Cabinet Member for Enforcement and Community Safety said: “It’s vital that young people are equipped with the knowledge and skills to lead safe, successful lives — and events like this make a real difference.

“I hope the students found it both enjoyable and inspiring. A big thank you to everyone who helped make it happen and shared such valuable life lessons with them.”

Junior Citizen is run as a competition between all the schools that take part and the children are marked by the instructors for each scenario.

This year’s winner was Godwin Primary School.
