A local business on the Heathway, Dagenham has partnered with Barking and Dagenham Council to address ongoing fly-tipping issues on a service road located behind their premises.
The business had been facing persistent problems with local individuals dumping household waste in commercial bins and along the alleyway.
In response, the business took proactive steps alongside the council by funding the removal of the waste and installing CCTV to monitor the area and deter future offences.
Environmental Enforcement officers have also issued formal warnings to both the shops and the residents living above them. Anyone caught fly-tipping in this location will face a £500 fixed penalty notice.
Councillor Syed Ghani, Cabinet Member for Enforcement and Community Safety said: "We’re committed to keeping our borough clean and safe. This shows what can be achieved when local businesses and the council work together.
“Fly-tipping is illegal and unfair on those living and working nearby, and taxpayers who foot the bill to clear it up. We will continue to take action against those who do not follow the rules."
If residents have evidence of people fly-tipping, they can report it to the council by emailing grimecrime@lbbd.gov.uk.
