Barking and Dagenham Council develops new 10-year Housing Strategy - residents invited to have their say

Barking and Dagenham Council is developing a brand-new housing strategy to help shape the future of housing across the borough - and is calling on residents to get involved and share their views.

The new strategy will set out the council’s priorities and vision for housing over the next ten years, focusing on how it will provide quality, affordable homes for all, prevent homelessness, improve housing standards, and support sustainable growth.

As a key part of creating the strategy, the council is hosting a series of face-to-face community engagement sessions and has also launched an online survey, giving every resident the opportunity to influence the borough’s housing future.

The next face-to-face session will take place at Dagenham Library on Tuesday 30 September, 3pm – 6pm and Barking Learning Centre on Saturday 18 October, 11am – 1pm. Booking is essential.

Councillor Maureen Worby, Cabinet Member for Adult Social Care, Health and Housing, said: “We know that good housing is the foundation for a good life - it affects health, wellbeing, education, employment and so much more. That’s why we’re asking residents to help shape our new housing strategy. Whether you’re a council tenant, homeowner, private renter, or just interested in the future of our borough, we want to hear from you. This is your opportunity to tell us what matters most when it comes to housing in the borough.”

By taking part, residents will help ensure the strategy reflects the real needs and aspirations of the local community.
