A Barking restaurant owner has been fined after failing to provide legally required records showing how commercial waste from his business was disposed of.
Mr Molik Choudhury, trading as Eastern Paradise, Ripple Road, Barking, appeared at Barkingside Magistrates Court on 9 September 2025. He pleaded guilty to failing to produce Waste Transfer Notes as required under Section 34 of the Environmental Protection Act 1990.
The offence came to light during routine trade waste inspections by the council. Despite being served notice on 2 October 2024 and a subsequent reminder, Mr Choudhury did not provide the necessary documentation. A Fixed Penalty Notice of £300 was issued but went unpaid, leading to prosecution.
The court ordered Mr Choudhury to pay a fine of £438, costs of £500 to the council, and a victim surcharge of £175.
Councillor Syed Ghani, Cabinet Member for Enforcement and Community Safety: “Businesses have a legal duty to manage their waste responsibly and keep proper records. This case sends a clear message that we will take action against those who fail to comply. Proper waste management protects our environment and keeps our borough clean for everyone.”
