A Barking shop owner has been fined after pleading guilty to breaching street trading conditions.
Poundsave Superstore at 13–15 Ripple Road, Barking, appeared at Barkingside Magistrates Court on 4 November 2025, where he admitted to extending his shop display beyond the permitted limit set out in his street trading licence.
The offence occurred on 18 March 2025 during a proactive patrol in Barking town centre. Officers discovered that the shop’s display extended almost half a metre beyond its authorised boundary, leaving less space for pedestrians and creating a potential hazard.
Mr Husaini was issued with a £100 Fixed Penalty Notice on 25 March 2025 as an opportunity to discharge liability and avoid prosecution. He was given 14 days to pay, and multiple reminder letters were sent warning that failure to pay would result in court action. After the final reminder expired, the penalty was withdrawn and the case was referred for prosecution.
The court imposed a fine of £439, Victims Surcharge of £176 along with £700 in costs, bringing the total to £1,315.00, which must be paid within 28 days.
Councillor Syed Ghani, Cabinet Member for Enforcement and Community Safety, said: "Street trading rules are in place to keep our pavements safe and accessible for everyone. When businesses ignore these conditions, it creates risks for pedestrians and undermines fairness for compliant traders. This shows that we will take action against those who disregard the law."
"We have to make sure that the rules are followed and remain fair for all businesses. Most do comply but action will be taken against those who don't."
