#CleanerBD: Nearly four tonnes cleared in Green Lane Day of Action

Barking and Dagenham Council has held its second Day of Action as part of their #CleanerBD campaign and cleared almost four tonnes of waste and vegetation.

The campaign, which launched in November, will see the council lead monthly Days of Action targeting hotspot areas for various issues such as fly-tipping, litter, parking, road defects and eyesore gardens across the borough - bringing together residents, schools, businesses, faith groups and volunteers to clean up public spaces.

The second Day of Action, held on 17 December, focused on hotspot areas around Green Lane and delivered impressive results:

  • 2.76 tonnes of waste collected
  • 1 tonne of vegetation cut back and cleared
  • Enforcement actions taken on fly-tipping, commercial waste, and parking breaches

Henry Green Primary School pupils played a key role, working alongside council staff and volunteers to highlight the importance of disposing of waste responsibly. These Days of Action will continue monthly across the borough, targeting areas most affected by fly-tipping and environmental crime.

Councillor Kashif Haroon, Cabinet Member for Public Realm & Climate Change said: “This fantastic effort shows what we can achieve when the community comes together. Clearing nearly four tonnes of waste in one day is no small feat, and I want to thank our staff, volunteers, and Henry Green Primary School for their hard work.

“We all have a role to play in keeping our borough clean, and these Days of Action are a great example of that in action."
