Court shuts down Dagenham brothel following resident complaints

A three-bedroom house in Dagenham being used as a brothel has been issued with a Closure Order by Barkingside Magistrates’ Court following an application submitted by Barking and Dagenham Council.

The closure order was granted on 27 November 2025 and will remain in place until 26 February 2026. The property, privately let via an estate management agent, had previously been targeted in December 2024 when it and neighbouring homes were vandalised with black oil and red paint.

Despite a Community Protection Warning issued in 2024, residents reported in October 2025 that the brothel was still operating, with men loitering outside, knocking on doors, and causing serious nuisance. The property owner and estate management failed to attend court to defend their position. Under the order, only emergency services may enter the premises during the closure period.

Councillor Syed Ghani, Cabinet Member for Enforcement and Community Safety said: “What was going on here was completely unacceptable, and unfair for residents living there. This decisive action shows that we will use all the powers we have to crack down on criminal or anti-social activities in our borough. Residents have our assurance that we will continue working closely with the Police to protect our communities.”

Any concerns about suspected brothels should be reported to the Police or council.
