As of Thursday 15 May, all parking permits in Barking and Dagenham are set to increase to bring them in line with neighbouring boroughs.
The council has been advertising the Notice of Intent on its website for the past month and residents have been able to see a full list of the new pricing there. However, some of the proposed changes are listed below:
- There is now a new Eco Tariff for all vehicles with a cost of £15, replacing the free permit for vehicles with 0-50 co2 emissions.
- Vehicles with emissions of up to 140 (CO2)g/km will see an increase of a maximum of 10%.
- High polluting vehicles of 141(CO2)g/km or more, could go up either by:
- 75% (Band 4) - an increase from £45 to £78.75 for up to two vehicles
- Or 100% (Band 5) - an increase from £51 to £102 for up to two vehicles
- Virtual Blue Badges will now cost £15
- Motorcycle permit to park in pay and display spaces will be £3.10 a day.
The website will be updated with the new changes on Thursday 15 May.
Councillor Syed Ghani, Cabinet Member for Enforcement and Community Safety said: “We understand that any increase in fees can be challenging, however we are just bringing them in line with neighbouring boroughs. The introduction of the Eco Tariff and adjustments based on vehicle emissions reflect our commitment to promoting environmentally friendly practices and reducing pollution.
“The revenue generated from these changes will be ringfenced for investments into improving our roads and enhancing safety measures throughout the borough. This includes upgrading infrastructure and increasing road maintenance, to ensure a better and safer environment for all our residents.”
