A Rainham resident has been ordered to pay more than £1,300 after being convicted of littering in Dagenham.
Mr Mark Kitching, of Fyfield Road, Rainham, was seen discarding a cigarette from his vehicle while driving along Parsloes Avenue on 21 March 2025.
Environmental Enforcement Officers from Barking and Dagenham Council witnessed the incident and issued a fixed penalty notice, which Mr Kitching failed to pay.
As a result, the case was referred to Barkingside Magistrates Court on Tuesday 2 December for prosecution.
The court imposed a £300 fine, ordered him to pay £910.15 in costs, and a £120 victim surcharge, bringing the total to £1,330.15.
Councillor Syed Ghani, Cabinet Member for Enforcement and Community Safety said: “Keeping our streets clean is everyone’s responsibility. When people ignore the rules, we take action to protect our borough. It starts here – with all of us doing our part to keep Barking and Dagenham clean.”
