Park bridges, pavilions, Family Hubs and community safety initiatives will be given a boost as key funding is approved.
Barking and Dagenham Council’s Cabinet recently approved £1.5million of Pride in Place spending plans.
The council will combine the government’s capital ‘Pride in Place’ funding with monies from its Strategic Community Infrastructure Levy (SCIL). This will provide a total amount of £2.8million to be invested to different projects in the borough over the next 14 months.
By combining the two lots of funding the council hopes to supercharge schemes across Barking and Dagenham.
Projects and places due to be invested in include:
- St Chads Park Pavillion refurbishment
- Barking Learning Centre Family Hub improvements
- Park bridges repairs
- Rapid deployment CCTV camera
- Street cleansing equipment
- Match funding for our beavers and storks re-introduction plans
Pride in Place Funding is capital funding distributed to a limited number of local authorities around the country with the aim of making long-term improvements that residents want.
Cllr Cameron Geddes, Cabinet Member for Regeneration and Economic Development, said: “This Pride in Place funding will be a fantastic support as we continue our renewal of every corner of the borough.
“By focussing on these projects right across Barking and Dagenham, we’re making sure that every resident will benefit.
“And by combining this funding with our SCIL money it means that we’re able to do so much more and allocate the funds to the projects we know most need it.”
The SCIL funding comes from new developments in the Borough and is part of the council’s focus on ensuring existing residents benefit from the Borough’s growth.
Key to Barking and Dagenham’s Council’s plans is the even distribution of the funding across the borough – meaning more will benefit than if it were focused on one area.
