Barking and Dagenham Council is proud to celebrate Women’s Empowerment Month 2026, a dedicated time to recognise and honour the remarkable achievements, resilience and leadership of women across the borough.
This year’s programme is inspired by the 2026 International Women’s Day theme, “Give to Gain”, a powerful reminder that when we give our time, support and resources to uplift women and girls, the whole community benefits.
The month’s activities began with a special raising of the Women’s Empowerment Month flag outside Barking Town Hall on Monday 2 March, where it will remain throughout the month as a symbol of solidarity, progress and commitment to gender equality.
This year’s programme features a dynamic mix of talks, storytelling, workshops, exhibitions and more, designed to empower, inform and inspire women and girls of all ages.
A full schedule of events can be viewed on the council’s website here.
This year also sees the return of the Women’s Empowerment Awards, recognising outstanding contributions by women who are driving positive change in Barking and Dagenham. Award recipients will be featured on the borough’s online Recognition Wall, where their stories, achievements and impact will be showcased for the wider community.
Councillor Sade Bright, Cabinet Member for Employment, Skills and Aspiration, said: “Women’s Empowerment Month is a vital opportunity for us to celebrate, reflect and take meaningful action. This year’s theme, Give to Gain, reminds us that when we invest in the lives of women and girls, we strengthen our entire community.
“The events planned across the month highlight the power of collective effort and the incredible achievements of women in Barking and Dagenham. I hope residents from all backgrounds will join us in celebrating, supporting and empowering one another.”
