Residents across Barking and Dagenham are being invited to showcase their gardening talents as entries are now open for the borough's first Gardener of the Year Competition.
The competition celebrates the creativity, dedication and community spirit of local gardeners, recognising those who help make Barking and Dagenham a greener, more vibrant place to live. From colourful front and back gardens to flourishing allotments, residents of all ages and experience levels are encouraged to take part.
The competition aims to highlight the positive impact gardening can have on neighbourhoods, biodiversity, wellbeing and community pride.
Entries will be judged on a range of criteria, including appearance, innovation, and contribution to the local environment. The winning prizes, generously sponsored by local business Chandlers Roofing Supplies, will be a share of £500 in shopping vouchers.
Councillor Worby, Cabinet Member for Housing, Adult Social Care and Health, said: “If you know of some brilliant green-fingered residents in the borough who deserve recognition then It Starts Here with our Gardener of the Year Competition.
“Whether it's a beautifully maintained garden or an amazing allotment, these green spaces make a real difference. I encourage everyone with a love of gardening to enter and help showcase the fantastic talent we have across Barking and Dagenham."
The council is encouraging residents to submit their entries and share the stories behind their gardens and growing spaces by Friday 3 July.
