In its continued effort to bring the community together to create a cleaner borough, Barking and Dagenham Council has held it’s latest Day of Action, clearing over 3.5 tonnes of waste.
The latest activity took place in the Chadwell Heath ward, focusing on Whalebone Lane North, Rose Lane and surrounding roads. A wide range of council services - including Street Cleansing, Environmental Enforcement, Caretaking, Trading Standards, Grounds Maintenance and Parking - came together to tackle local issues and improve the look and feel of the area.
The third Day of Action, held on Thursday 22 January, delivered some impressive results:
- Over 3.5 tonnes of waste cleared
- Several potholes
- Grass and bushes cut back
- Enforcement action on commercial waste and parking breaches
- Business compliance checks carried out by Trading Standards, with action taken where needed
Council officers were joined by volunteers from Rose Lane Primary School, Marks Gate Community Hub, a local McDonald’s, and ward councillors, all playing their part in supporting the effort.
Councillor Kashif Haroon, Cabinet Member for Public Realm & Climate Change said: “Over three and a half tonnes of waste cleared in one day is a great achievement. Thank you to our staff, volunteers and Rose Lane Primary School for going above and beyond.
“We all have a part to play in keeping our borough clean, and Days of Action show what’s possible when we work together.”
The council will continue to run monthly Days of Action throughout the year, targeting hotspots across the borough and tackling a range of issues to support cleaner, safer neighbourhoods.
