Barking and Dagenham Council has taken decisive action against a persistent noise nuisance, after officers seized DJ equipment and other items from a council property following ongoing breaches of a legal notice.
Officers executed a warrant at a property in Dagenham on Wednesday 10 June after continued complaints of loud amplified music, despite previous enforcement action and a successful prosecution.
The tenant had been served with an Abatement Notice in May 2025, after repeated incidents of statutory noise nuisance. Following further breaches, the case was taken to Barkingside Magistrates Court, where the individual was found guilty earlier in the year.
However, further breaches continued, leading the council to secure a warrant from the court to enter the property and seize equipment linked to the disturbance.
Supported by the Police and a council locksmith, officers gained entry to the property, where they discovered a full DJ setup including large speakers, decks, microphones and other equipment. These items, along with additional devices, have now been seized and are being securely stored.
The council is now pursuing further legal action, including applying for forfeiture of the seized equipment and seeking a Criminal Behaviour Order (CBO). Separate housing action is also underway.
Councillor Syed Ghani, Cabinet Member for Enforcement and Community Safety said: “We take noise nuisance extremely seriously, particularly when it continues despite clear warnings and court action. Residents have the right to enjoy peace in their own homes, and we will not hesitate to take strong enforcement action against those who repeatedly disrupt their neighbours.
“This is an example of our services showing we will use the full range of powers available to us including seizing equipment and pursuing further legal measures to protect our communities.”
