A Dagenham-based company has been fined after failing to provide information to Barking and Dagenham Council during an investigation into commercial waste.
Longlang Shops Ltd, of 296 Heathway, were prosecuted for not complying with a statutory notice issued by the council’s Environmental Enforcement team following enquiries into waste management at the premises. Despite repeated requests, including a reminder and notice of intended prosecution, the company failed to respond, preventing the investigation from progressing.
The case was heard at Barkingside Magistrates’ Court on 26 May 2026, where the defendant entered a guilty plea. The court issued a £100 fine, alongside £350 in costs and a £40 victim surcharge.
Councillor Syed Ghani, Cabinet Member for Enforcement and Community Safety said: “Businesses have a clear responsibility to engage with the council and comply with investigations, particularly where waste and environmental issues are concerned.
“Failing to provide information not only breaks the law but hinders our ability to protect our communities and keep our borough clean and safe. We will not hesitate to take action against those who do not cooperate.”
