A Dagenham shop has been fined nearly £2,000 after failing to provide legally required waste documentation to council officers.
Dizz Foods Ltd, based on Hedgemans Road, was prosecuted after failing to comply with a legal notice to produce waste transfer notes, which show how waste is stored, transported and disposed of. Officers carried out a duty of care inspection in March 2025 and requested the records, but the business failed to provide them despite repeated reminders and enforcement action.
The company was issued with a Fixed Penalty Notice as an alternative to prosecution, but failed to pay. The case was heard at Barkingside Magistrates’ Court on 23 June 2026, where it was found guilty in absence.
The court ordered Dizz Foods Ltd to pay a £300 fine, £1,518.20 in costs and a £120 victim surcharge, bringing the total to £1,938.20.
Waste transfer notes are a legal requirement for businesses and play a vital role in ensuring waste is handled responsibly and does not end up being dumped illegally.
Councillor Syed Ghani, Cabinet Member for Enforcement and Community Safety said: “All businesses have a legal responsibility to manage their waste properly, including keeping clear records of how it is stored and disposed of. Failing to do so undermines efforts to tackle illegal dumping and protect our environment. We will continue to take action against those who do not meet their responsibilities.”
