Nominations have been confirmed for candidates standing in all 19 wards across Barking and Dagenham as residents receive poll cards ahead of the 7 May election.
An administrative error was identified relating to nomination papers for three Labour Party candidates in Northbury ward, caused by a fault in an externally supplied electoral administration system. The issue related to a seconder who was ineligible because they no longer lived in the borough, which the system failed to identify during the nominations process. Following advice from the Electoral Commission and the Association of Electoral Administrators, the election will proceed with all the candidates as published at the close of nominations on 9 April.
A full manual review of all nominations across the borough has confirmed the issue was isolated to this ward. The supplier has acknowledged the fault, is taking corrective action, and has advised other users nationally.
A full list of candidates across the borough can be found on the council website.
