A property in Dagenham has been cleared of waste and rubbish following action by Barking and Dagenham Council, helping to improve the local area and address concerns raised by residents.
The property on Porters Avenue was the subject of an environmental enforcement investigation after complaints were made about the condition of the front garden and driveway. Following engagement from the council's Enforcement and Community Safety team, the waste was removed and fully cleared last week (Saturday 11 July).
While some eyesore gardens can be resolved quickly, others can take time as officers work with property owners, gather evidence and follow the appropriate enforcement process before formal action can be taken, such as prosecutions. The council investigates all reports it receives and works to ensure land is brought back into an acceptable condition wherever possible.
The successful clearance has improved the appearance of the street, reduced the risk of further waste accumulating as well as showing the positive impact residents can have by reporting issues.
Councillor Syed Ghani, Cabinet Member for Enforcement and Community Safety said: "Nobody wants to see gardens and driveways become dumping grounds for rubbish. They have a negative impact on the local area and attract further waste and anti-social behaviour."
"This case shows the difference that can be made when concerns are reported to us. Creating a cleaner borough starts with all of us, and residents play an important role in helping us tackle issues that affect where they live.
