Families across Barking and Dagenham are being encouraged to look closer to home for their next great day out as the council launches the second phase of its It Starts Here campaign.

Running throughout the summer holidays, the campaign shines a spotlight on the wide range of affordable and free activities, events and attractions available across the borough, reminding residents that they don’t have to travel far to enjoy quality time together.

Whether it’s exploring the borough’s rich history at Valence House Museum or Eastbury Manor House, making the most of parks, playgrounds and sports facilities, or taking part in one of the many family-friendly events happening throughout the holidays, there’s plenty to discover right on your doorstep.

Families can cool off with free sessions at Splashy Land in Barking Park while children and young people can also benefit from HAF places, offering a packed programme of sports, games and activities throughout the holidays.

The campaign also highlights everything from library activities and cultural events to nature trails and outdoor fitness, making it easier than ever for residents to plan memorable days out without leaving the borough.

Councillor Dominic Twomey, Leader of Barking and Dagenham Council, said: “Summer is a time to make memories with family and friends, and you don’t have to travel miles or spend a fortune to do it.

“Barking and Dagenham has so much to offer, from beautiful parks and heritage sites to fantastic leisure facilities, community events and activities for all ages. This campaign is about encouraging people to rediscover what’s on their doorstep and making the most of everything our borough has to offer.

“Whether you’re visiting somewhere for the first time or returning to an old favourite, I hope families will get out, explore their local area and enjoy a brilliant summer together.”

Residents can find inspiration, discover local events and plan their summer by picking up a ‘What’s on Guide’ from local libraries or view it online at www.lbbd.gov.uk/summer-whats-on

Residents are also encouraged to enter a prize draw for the chance to win one of 100 FREE Barking Park Splashy Land tickets. Entries must be made by 16 August via the council website and winners will be selected and random and contacted the following week.
