Residents invited to have their say on plans to transform Dagenham Heathway

Barking and Dagenham Council is calling on residents, businesses, and community groups to share their views on the draft Dagenham Heathway Supplementary Planning Document (SPD), a major step toward revitalising one of the borough’s most important town centres.

The draft SPD sets out a long‑term vision to redevelop the existing shopping centre and reinvigorate Dagenham Heathway as a thriving, welcoming, and sustainable hub at the heart of the Becontree and Dagenham communities.

The consultation runs until 16 March. Residents can share their views online here, or in-person at two upcoming events at Dagenham Library on the following dates:

  • Saturday 21 February, 2pm - 4pm
  • Thursday 5 March, 10am - 12pm

Cllr Cameron Geddes, Cabinet Member for Regeneration and Economic Development, said: “We want everyone who is part of the Dagenham Heathway community to have a say in its future.

“We’ve worked hard on these plans that set out how we’re going to take the area forward, but we need everyone from residents to businesses to get involved and make sure the change we’ll see is in everyone’s interests.”

The draft SPD builds on previous rounds of resident consultation and local research. The document outlines four key Place Objectives:

  • A cleaner and greener Heathway
  • A safe and successful Heathway
  • A healthy and connected Heathway
  • A vibrant and social Heathway
