Local businesses pass underage tobacco purchase test with flying colours

Barking and Dagenham Council Trading Standards Officers carried out an operation on Saturday 25 June where an individual under 18-years of age tried to purchase cigarettes from 23 different businesses. All 23 of these businesses refused to sell cigarettes to the young person.

An illegal encampment which has been a persistent problem for local residents and was a source of antisocial behaviour has been cleared thanks to a joint action between council enforcement officers and the police.

The announcement by the Regional Director of the IOPC that the way the Metropolitan Police initially handled the deaths of four men murdered by serial killer Stephen Port is to be reinvestigated has been welcome by the Leader of Barking and Dagenham Council, Cllr Darren Rodwell.
