Supporting the local businesses to access new opportunities, grow and improve across all sectors is critical to delivering the Council’s vision for more inclusive growth and increasing jobs and development opportunities for residents.
Over the last decade the council has established new affordable workspace with wraparound business support in Barking town centre – from the Barking Enterprise Centre to Riverside Mills Studios and most recently Make It Barking and the Three Sixty Workrooms.
In 2019 we set up a Business Forum to better engage and communicate with local businesses about the priorities, opportunities and developments in the borough. During the pandemic, we distributed over £45m in grants and tax relief to local businesses and put in place new support programmes to help employers mitigate job losses in the worst-affected sectors.
