Save costs by cutting carbon

Want to save money while doing the right thing for your employees, customers and the planet?

High energy and fuel costs are putting huge pressure on businesses. At the same, consumers are increasingly seeking ethical and sustainable markets. This is leading many businesses to become more environmentally sustainable and get themselves ‘regulation ready’ for the Government’s Net Zero commitments.

Barking and Dagenham Council announced a climate emergency in April 2019.

We pledged to move quicker than the Government targets, making our own activities carbon neutral by 2030 to become the Green Capital of the Capital. We are supporting more green spaces and biodiversity, active travel (walking and cycling routes), cleaner and greener homes and more sustainable supply chains.

But we need your help to improve air quality and reduce carbon across the borough.

WHY: What are the potential benefits to businesses?

  • Save costs by reducing energy use
  • Improve your resilience to the impact of climate change
  • Get ready for regulation and customer demand changes
  • Meet the consumer demand for more ethical products and services
  • Attract investment
  • Do the right thing for your employees, customers and the planet

HOW: Support for local businesses and organisations

Barking & Dagenham Council has launched the B&D Carbon reduction programme, we have secured government funding for 200 local organisations to reduce your carbon footprint, for FREE.

We have partnered with Climate Essentials, an award-winning carbon management and reduction toolkit that makes climate action easy, engaging, and links to the SME Climate Hub #TogetherForOurPlanet campaign. The program helps you understand your business’ carbon footprint and create an action plan, alongside bespoke professional advice to help you see your changes through.

Benefits of B&D Carbon reduction programme include: free access to the Climate Essentials software; personalised downloadable reports, a personalised company report to improve your carbon reduction strategy and promote your green credentials; and support from climate scientists. Through this program you will gain resilience to an ever changing customer and regulatory landscape. Consumers and suppliers are demanding climate action, make sure you get ahead!

Having a sustainability plan could also give your company a competitive advantage when it comes to contract opportunities. More and more large companies and the public sector requires evidence to show their supply chains are sustainable. By utilising the toolkit it may help demonstrate and evidence how your business stands out not just as a trailblazer showing you see sustainability as an opportunity to differentiate yourself and take action.
