You may be entitled to a discount on the market value of your home if you qualify for Right to Buy.
The discount is based on:
- the type of property you are buying (house or flat)
- the value of your home
- how long you have been a tenant with a public sector landlord
The current maximum Right to Buy discount is £38,000.
You may have to repay some or all of your discount if you sell your home within 5 years of purchase.
If you have previously purchased a property under the Right to Buy scheme and received a discount, this may reduce the discount available to you.
Houses:
- 3 to 5 years as a public sector tenant: 35% discount
- After 5 years: the discount increases by 1% for each additional year, up to the maximum discount available
Flats:
- 3 to 5 years as a public sector tenant: 50% discount
- After 5 years: the discount increases by 2% for each additional year, up to the maximum discount available.
