We can provide parking bays for Blue Badge holders who do not have a driveway and have difficulty parking outside their home.
Disabled residents parking places are free of charge, but applicants must meet certain criteria.
Criteria for disabled parking bays
The criteria for providing a disabled person's parking bay are:
- You must hold a valid Blue Badge.
- You must have a vehicle registered at your address.
- You will have a Diagnosed, Permanent & Substantial walking disability (Hidden Disabilities does not qualify).
- You do not hold a valid Freedom Pass.
- You must not have Off Street Parking at the address.
- The Road must be adopted by Barking & Dagenham Council.
- Is there sufficient space onsite to install a disabled bay - Infrastructure such as dropped kerbs, trees, lamp columns and utility inspection covers, width of the footway or road restrict our ability to introduce a bay. An inspection on site will be carried out to determine whether a bay is achievable.
- Impact to other parking needs i.e., ability for residents, businesses, visitors to park - Will a disabled bay significantly impact upon other parking needs within the immediate area?
- Are there existing disabled bays or similar facilities nearby? Disabled bays are not allocated to a specific blue badge holder, so the use other disabled bays maybe be sufficient.
- Are there any planned changes to the area? i.e., new developments, Controlled parking zones proposal and so on which may impact parking in the area.
- Do you live within a Controlled Parking Zone? If yes, you may be declined a disabled parking bay but applications will be assessed on a case by case basis. Within Barking and Dagenham, valid blue badge holders are permitted to park for free in a resident parking bay as long as the valid blue badge is displayed.
