Moving from infant to junior school in 2024

If your child attends an infant school and was born between 1 September 2016 and 31 August 2017, they will start their junior school in September 2024.

The admissions process will start on 1 November 2023. Do not apply for a school place until this date. School places are not offered based on who applies first.

If you apply now you put your chance of getting a place at your preferred school at risk if you do not follow the process in the ‘Moving to junior school in 2024’ e-booklet which will be published on 1 November 2023.

Please therefore wait until November to apply for a school place, when full information (including new schools) about making your application will be available. The closing date will be 15 January 2024.

Linked Barking & Dagenham junior schools

If you want your child to attend their link Barking & Dagenham junior school, you do not need to fill in an application form, as we will do this for you (even if you live outside the borough).

If you would prefer your child to go to a different junior school you must apply online from 1 November.

Junior schools outside the borough

For infant and junior schools outside the borough, please contact the school or relevant local authority about their admissions procedure.

If they confirm you need to apply through your home local authority (us) you will need to apply online from 1 November.

Junior applications from children not in infant schools

If your child is at any other type of school and you would like to apply for a year 3 place at a Junior school (for September 2024 start) you will also have to apply online from 1 November.
