Moving to secondary school

All the information you need for when your child moves to secondary school

Apply online for a school place

If you child is in Year 6 of their primary education and will be moving to year 7 in September 2025, you will need to apply for a secondary school place.

If your child was born between 1 September 2013 and 31 August 2014 they will start a secondary-phase school in September 2025.

This move is not an automatic process and you must apply for a place at the schools you would like your child to go to. To apply please use the green Apply online for a school place button above or visit eadmissions.org.uk.

If want to make any changes to your application (like your list of school or the order of your school preferences) after submitting your application, you can make the changes on e-admissions, as many times as you wish up until 12 midnight on 31 October 2024.

Please ensure that you have your Application Reference number which starts 301-2025-09-E- xxxxxx.

Once the applications close after midnight of the 31 October 2024 until 4 March 2025 you cannot make changes. You will need to wait until after National Offer Day.

After National Offer Day from the evening of 3 March 2025, you will be able to amend your school preferences on this Change my School Preference form which is will be available on this webpage and not on E-admissions website.

Important things to note

The online closing date is midnight on 31 October 2024. Applications received after this date are considered as 'late' and your child is not likely to get a place at an oversubscribed school.

Do not put your application at risk. You must read the admissions e-booklet Moving to secondary school in 2025 (PDF, 2.06 MB) before you apply.

If you try to apply online and you cannot see your exact address in the list, or the schools you want to apply for are not listed, you must contact the School Admissions Team before 5pm on 30 October 2024 or your application will be considered as ‘late’.

Watch our presentation about the admissions process on YouTube.

If you have any technical difficulties when making your application online, the 'Online admissions helpdesk’ is available Monday to Friday from 9.30am to 5.30pm. Call 020 8255 5555 and select option 1.

If you still need help after calling the helpdesk, please email or phone us - our details are below.

Results will be posted on the evening of 3 March 2025. Please ensure that you check your email account that you originally submitted your application with eAdmissions on for the results as well as your junk email. Please do not contact the School Admission team after 31 October 2024 until 4 March 2025 concerning your preferences of school places, new addresses, change of school preferences, as we cannot amend any details on your application. You will need to wait until 4 March 2025 and you will need to complete a change my school preference form. Once the forms have been completed and sent to us, we will then process your change of preferences. Please note that we have very high volume of emails from this date onwards. You will receive an acknowledgement email to say that we have received it. Please wait for us to respond to you with what action we have taken.
