Housework

If you are finding it difficult to keep your home clean and tidy or to do household or gardening jobs, there are options available that may help.

Handyperson scheme

If you are aged 65 years or over, you may be able to use the free Harmony House handyperson scheme for help with small jobs you find difficult to do, and that will reduce hazards and so prevent falls. Find out more about the scheme on our equipment and adaptations page.

Cleaners and homecare agencies

If you need help with cleaning your home, you could think about using a private cleaner or a homecare agency.  Homecare agencies must be registered with the Care Quality Commission (CQC). You can search for local homecare agencies on the CQC website.

They can provide you with staff to help with housework and other things, but you will have to pay for their services.

Help from adult social care

If you or someone you know needs help with maintaining a habitable home environment, or being able to make use of your home safely, you can ask adult social care at Barking and Dagenham council for a free care needs assessment.
