Council Tax Support scheme

How the Council Tax Support scheme from 1 April 2026 works

Our Council Tax Support scheme for working age people uses a simple system of income bands to assess your award. The scheme for pensioners remains unchanged.

The income band system gives you a percentage reduction on your Council Tax bill based on your household income. Extra allowances are allowed for households with children.

The level of support provided by the Council Tax support scheme for 2026/27 remains unchanged.

Changes to income within an income band will not result in a change in the Council Tax Support award.

We will not issue notification letters on your claim if you report a change in circumstances that does not result in a change to your Council Tax Support award.
