The Borough Recognition Awards are open to individuals and organisations who have made an outstanding contribution to the Barking and Dagenham community. This could include teachers, carers, community leaders, or exceptional organisations or individuals who have made a real impact in the borough.
Nominees must live, work, or volunteer in the borough and demonstrate exceptional service, leadership, or impact in areas such as community development, youth engagement, cultural enrichment, or public service.
Nominations can be submitted by any resident or organisation using the official council form, which requires details about the nominee’s achievements and contact information for both the nominator and nominee. The awards are overseen by the Mayor and are part of the borough’s commitment to celebrating civic pride and community excellence.

Nomination for the Borough Recognition Award
Unfortunately, we will not be able to reply to all nominations received.
The closing date for the current round of nominations is Monday 5th October 2026, with the next round to open in 2027. After the nomination deadline, a panel is chaired by the Mayor to discuss and agree on award recipients.
Awardees will be invited to attend a special Borough Recognition Award Ceremony at Barking Town Hall, where they will be presented with a sealed certificate.
