East London council celebrates inspirational women and nominations open for 2021

The pandemic could not stop the fifth Barking and Dagenham annual Women’s Empowerment Awards. The awards, which were held online this year, celebrated the inspirational women of Barking and Dagenham.

Women were honoured across eight categories, with finalists and winners carefully selected by a panel of judges. Attendees joined together to deliver some inspirational words as part of a special Women’s Empowerment Month video.

Illegal rave
Residents encouraged to help put a stop to the illegal parties

The last few weeks has seen a rise in illegal parties, also known as Unlicensed Music Events (UMEs) taking place in Barking and Dagenham and the council and police are asking residents to help put a stop to them.

UMEs are against the law at the best of times, but even more so in the world we’re currently living in, where everyone should be social distancing and limiting the number of people they see.

No child should spend Christmas without a family, do you have space at your Christmas table for one more?

As many of us are filled with excitement for the festive period, in Barking and Dagenham there are a number of children in the care of the council who have experienced a year they will never forget. We need your help to give them a safe and loving home.



We are looking for experienced foster carers and people interested in fostering to join our team and help make a difference to the lives of our borough’s children.

Council creates a ‘Forest of Thanks’ for NHS and keyworkers

During what has been a difficult and unprecedented time for everyone, Barking and Dagenham Council wanted to recognise the incredible work local NHS staff and keyworkers have done, and continue to do during the pandemic. To celebrate them, the council created a ‘Forest of Thanks’ at Parsloes Park in Dagenham.

Local businesses invited to find out if they are eligible for a Covid business grant

Business operating in Barking and Dagenham who have been impacted local and national Covid-19 restrictions are being invited to check if they are eligible for grant support.

The council is currently accepting applications for the new round of grants – there are four different types of grants all with different eligibility criteria and grant award amounts.

Jobs for local people at the council’s job shops

Residents of Barking and Dagenham are able to apply for a range of jobs including care work, nursery vacancies, apprenticeships and graduate entry positions with the police and a host of other opportunities by contacting the council’s job shops.

Residents looking to sign up for work and training can still contact the council’s job shops. Although not open to the public as there are no face-to-face appointments, the service is still supporting local people via email, telephone or Skype.
