Residential cycle hangars

What are cycle hangars?

Cycle hangars are secure outdoor bike storage units for up to six bicycles.

They can be placed on streets or pavements where there's enough space. They're mainly for regular cyclists who don't have a safe place to store their bike at home.

The cost for renting a space in a cycle hangar will be £30 per year (from 2026 onwards) and the rental service is managed by both LockIt Safe and Cyclehoop.

If you rent a space, you'll get a key so only renters can access the hangar. This service is reserved for residents of Barking and Dagenham.

Upcoming cycle hangars

If there's no hangar near you, you can request one. Areas with high demand are more likely to get a new hangar, especially if multiple residents ask for one. However, installation depends on available council resources. Once a hangar has been installed, spaces will become available on a first-come first-serve basis. Please note that we cannot individually reply to these location suggestions.
