What we cannot investigate
There are some things that we are not able to investigate:
- We can't investigate normal things like kids playing or household noises, unless they're doing something serious like breaking things or being verbally abusive.
- We also can't investigate when someone is just staring at someone, or muttering under their breath
- We won't get involved if people are just being unpleasant to each other, unless it's serious and could cause a lot of harm.
- If someone is using drugs but not causing problems for anyone else, we can't investigate that. You should contact the police instead
- If someone is doing something such as hurting someone, damaging something or committing a hate crime, you should contact the police
- We can't help with noise nuisance or untidy gardens. You should contact the Environmental Enforcement Team
- We can’t investigate issues relating to parking, unless there are Anti-Social Behaviour issues involved. You can report parking issues to the Parking Enforcement Team
- We can't investigate overcrowded rented homes or landlords who aren't following the rules, unless they're causing other problems. You can report unlicensed landlords, or issues with Private Rented Sector homes to the Private Sector Housing Team.
- If you have a problem with someone who lives in a housing association home, you should speak with the housing association. If the housing association has not helped you, you can notify the housing ombudsman. The council is unable to take action against housing association residents or housing associations.
