Week of action against illicit tobacco and vapes in Barking and Dagenham

In preparation for the upcoming ban on disposable vapes in June, Barking and Dagenham Council’s Trading Standards Team recently conducted targeted enforcement operations across the borough in coordination with other Councils as part of a London-wide crackdown.

Council tenant found guilty and sentenced for housing fraud

A Barking and Dagenham council tenant has been sentenced today (Monday 31 March) to 5 concurrent sentences of 2 years, suspended for 2 years, for deliberately misleading council officers in an application to acquire his council property under the Right to Buy Scheme.

“Children thinking in different ways is a gift” - Secretary of State recognises Becontree Primary School as an exemplar of inclusive schooling

The Secretary of State for Education, Bridget Phillipson, delivered a keynote speech at the Association of School and College Leaders Annual Conference on 14 March, where she named Becontree Primary School as an exemplar of inclusive schooling.

This recognition follows her visit to Becontree Primary School in December, where she learned about the innovative work being undertaken by the school.

Four Days of FREE* Fun for the kids: Easter HAF programme returns

Barking and Dagenham Council is announcing the return of its Holiday Activity and Food (HAF) Programme this Easter, which provides up to four days of activities, for children and young people aged 5-16. All activities are designed to keep the kids active, engaged, and healthy.

*The Holiday Activity and Food (HAF) Programme is free to children and young people who live or go to school in Barking and Dagenham and are eligible for benefit-related free school meals, with paid places available for everyone.

Notice of changes to penalty charges and additional fees

Following a determination by the London Councils Transport and Environment Committee, approval by the Mayor of London, and having received no objection within the period of one month of notifying the Secretary of State for Transport, the following increase in penalty charges and additional fees will take effect in the 32 London boroughs and the City of London from 7 April 2025.
