Introduction

Barking and Dagenham faces some of the highest levels of poverty in London, with many residents experiencing low incomes, financial hardship, unemployment and the ongoing impact of rising living costs. 

Local organisations play a vital role in supporting residents, preventing crises and helping people build long-term financial resilience. Through the Community Grants Programme, the Council is investing in community-led solutions that reduce hardship, strengthen communities and improve outcomes for local people.

About the fund

The Crisis and Resilience Fund (CRF) is funded by the UK Government and supports services and activities that:

• help residents experiencing financial hardship
• improve financial resilience
• strengthen local support networks
• reduce reliance on crisis support
• improve access to joined-up local services

The programme runs from 1 April 2026 to 31 March 2029. 

Application timeline

A further Community Grants Programme will be available after April 2027.

Programme objectives

Projects should contribute to one or more of the following objectives:

Effective crisis support

Providing timely assistance that prevents or reduces the impact of financial crises.

Improving financial resilience

Helping residents manage financial shocks, maximise income and improve long-term financial stability.

Strengthening local support networks

Creating a more joined-up network of services so residents can find the right support at the right time.
