Barking and Dagenham Council's ninth Women's Empowerment Awards honour borough's outstanding women

Barking and Dagenham Council’s ninth Women’s Empowerment Awards ceremony took place last night (Monday 25 March), showcasing and celebrating the exceptional achievements of women and girls across the borough.

The finalists were selected by a panel of judges who faced the challenging task of determining the ultimate winners across nine categories.

School and community mourn the loss of long serving Governor

Roy Patient, the dedicated and well-liked Chair of Governors at Eastbury Community School, has sadly passed away at the age of 90.

Known as ‘Mr Eastbury’, Roy Patient had worked with the school since 1969 and first joined the school’s Board of Governors over 40 years ago. His commitment to good education and support for the school’s students never wavered.

Global Recycling Day stars: Meet the Dagenham pupils taking charge of battery recycling in their community

Children and staff at Henry Green Primary School in Dagenham have collected a whopping 5,000 batteries in a bid to recycle them and prevent fires.

The school’s Green Team, who lead on sustainability initiatives, were so shocked to learn that a battery was the cause of a fire in one of Barking and Dagenham Council’s bin trucks that they sprang into action.

Join Tharik Hussain for an inspiring afternoon as he describes Ramadan and its key principles as well as offering the religion-historical context to make clear why the month is so significant to Muslims beyond the popular perception, i.e. the key historical events that have taken place in the month.
